I am ok.
A heartfelt thanks to those who contacted me after Hurricanes Heline and Milton. I genuinely appreciate your concern.
For those of you who don’t know, I am based in Sarasota, Florida.
So far this year, we’ve had tropical Storm Debbie, which caused massive flooding in the area and shut us down for a while.
Hurricane Helene arrived on Sept 27th and, due to storm surge, decimated our coastal areas and beaches.
Hurricane Milton arrived just 13 days after Helene.
I have several friends who have now lost their homes.
A lot of people here are still without power.
My property has a gate and a lot of fencing down.
A big tree from a neighbor's yard flew onto the back deck.
There is currently limited gas, and the airport is closed.
Sounds of chainsaws, generators, and emergency vehicles fill the air.
I am originally from Buffalo, NY, and I liken preparing for a hurricane to preparing the yard and house for winter. Then, post-hurricane, it is like taking everything out for Spring.
Imagine that you have to do all that twice within 2 weeks.
Hurricane Milton was a direct hit on Sarasota. The “eye” went right over us. It was chaos with winds of 100+ miles an hour and sudden stillness. I went outside to be under the eye, which was absent of wind; it was still and calm. Twenty minutes later, even worse chaos ensued for hours.
As for the effects of the hurricane, I can tell you that “hurricane hangover” is real. I feel sudden bursts of energy and then dead tired. My nervous system is cycling to normalize. It’s been a time of going with the flow and self-care.
Also, minor sinus, eye, and lung symptoms are caused by the winds. This hurricane illness is called Katrina Cough, and it was named after Hurricane Katrina.
I was supposed to be on vacation this week, but after taking two unexpected weeks off this month due to Hurricanes, I need to stay and get caught up on my business.
